چکیده
This paper investigates clausal constituent order in Estonian, a language often described the literature as exhibiting verb-second “tendency”. We present corpusbased study of ordering independent affirmative declarative clauses, drawing data from both written and spoken corpora. Our results show that, while Estonian is robustly along same lines modern Germanic standard languages, exhibits much more variation. findings lead us to suggest that patterns with recently-established class “verb-third” syntactic analyses developed account for these languages can also our data.

Summarizing Spoken and Written Conversations
In this paper we describe research on summarizing conversations in the meetings and emails domains. We introduce a conversation summarization system that works in multiple domains utilizing general conversational features, and compare our results with domain-dependent systems for meeting and email data. We find that by treating meetings and emails as conversations with general conversational fe...
متن کاملSubjectivity detection in spoken and written conversations
In this work we investigate four subjectivity and polarity tasks on spoken and written conversations. We implement and compare several pattern-based subjectivity detection approaches, including a novel technique wherein subjective patterns are learned from both labeled and unlabeled data, using n-gram word sequences with varying levels of lexical instantiation. We compare the use of these learn...

WE COMBINED MAGNETOENCEPHALOGRAPHY (MEG) AND MAGNETIC RESONANCE IMAGING (MRI) TO EXAMINE HOW SENSORY MODALITY, LANGUAGE TYPE, AND LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY INTERACT DURING TWO FUNDAMENTAL STAGES OF WORD PROCESSING: (1) an early word encoding stage, and (2) a later supramodal lexico-semantic stage. Adult native English speakers who were learning American Sign Language (ASL) performed a semantic task ...
متن کاملParsing Manually Detected and Normalized Disfluencies in Spoken Estonian
An experiment with an Estonian Constraint Grammar based syntactic analyzer is conducted, analyzing transcribed speech. In this paper the problems encountered during parsing disfluencies are analyzed. In addition, the amount by which the manual normalization of disfluencies improved the results of recall and precision was compared to non-normalized utterances.
متن کاملTreebank Profiling of Spoken and Written German
This paper profiles significant differences in syntactic distribution and differences in word class frequencies for two treebanks of spoken and written German: the TüBa-D/S, a treebank of transliterated spontaneous dialogs, and the TüBa-D/Z treebank of newspaper articles published in the German daily newspaper ’die tageszeitung’ (taz). The approach can be used more generally as a means of disti...
